The Other Door Recovery Residences, Inc. (TODRR) is a peer-led nonprofit based in Fort Myers, Florida, currently in the developmental stage and preparing to open in 2026. Our mission is simple but urgent: to provide ethical, peer-driven housing and recovery support for individuals navigating addiction, trauma, and housing instability.
We believe the opposite of addiction is connection — and that healing is found through structure, support, and shared experience. That’s why when we open, TODRR will be more than just a place to sleep. We’ll eat together. Grow together. Lead together.
Our Mission
To empower individuals in recovery by providing ethical, peer-supported housing and reintegration services that promote stability, accountability, and long-term success.
Our Story
Founded by Gil Ford, a peer support leader with lived experience in both addiction and recovery, TODRR was born from the gaps he saw firsthand: housing that lacks compassion, programs that ignore peer wisdom, and people falling through the cracks.
TODRR exists to change that — with leadership from those who’ve lived it, and a model built on radical accountability, shared meals, and honest human connection. We don’t claim to have all the answers, but we believe in showing up, listening, and learning together.
Who We Serve
We serve adults in recovery — individuals who have done the hard work of getting clean, only to realize that graduating a program isn’t the same as being prepared for life.
Over the past four years, we’ve watched too many people complete treatment and walk out the door with hope, but no real plan. A few months later, they’re back — carrying the weight of regret, shame, and missed opportunities.
We’ve seen it firsthand:
-
The client who wishes they’d paid more attention in group
-
The one who didn’t know what questions to ask before discharge
-
The one who believed their ego’s promise: “I’ll figure it out”
-
The one who never learned how to budget, job hunt, or cook
-
The one who didn’t save enough — and didn’t know how
TODRR is here to change that outcome.
We provide real-world strategies and structure that equip people to not only maintain recovery — but to thrive in it:
-
Job placement support based on individual strengths
-
Resume and employment coaching
-
Independent living readiness (cooking, cleaning, budgeting, communication)
-
Vocational workshops built for recovery
-
Daily support from peer mentors who’ve lived it — and are ready to guide others through what they wish they’d known
We’re building a “one-stop shop” for recovery readiness — where clients leave with more than clean time. They leave with confidence, community, and a plan that works.
